– 2 cups of all-purpose flour
– 2 eggs
– 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
– 2/3 cup of white sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
– 1/2 cup of butter, melted
– 2/3 cup of whole milk
– 1/2 cup of heavy cream
– 1/2 cup of white sugar
– 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
– 2 tablespoons of water
– 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract


1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan and set aside.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and sugar.

3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and add to the dry ingredients. Add the melted butter and continue to beat until everything is well blended.

4. Slowly add the milk and heavy cream to the mixture, stirring constantly.

5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes.

6. In a small saucepan, add the white sugar and cornstarch over low heat. Stir constantly until everything thickens and becomes a syrup-like consistency. Once this is achieved, turn off the heat and set aside.

7. For the mousse, add the heavy cream, vanilla extract and water in a bowl and beat until light and fluffy.

8. When the cake has cooled, use a serrated knife to cut it into 2 layers and spread the mousse between the layers.

9. Pour the syrup over the top of the cake and spread evenly. Let cool completely before serving.
